2013 Events
2013's event took place on Thursday, October 17th. Daytime activities were held during the day in the Social Science Building (SO) Rotunda. Some activities included Mad Libs, "Words as Art" activities, and activities that raised awareness about how words can give people freedom of expression.
The evening reading by poet and essayist Julie Marie Wade and corresponding book signing and reception were held outside the University Center for Excellence in Writing located inside the Center for Teaching and Learning.
In addition, this year's evening program welcomed Samantha Bonnin, the local winner of the "Dream UP" contest, sponsored by The Office Depot Foundation and the USA TODAY Charitable Foundation . "Dream UP" aims to help middle school students find the inspiration and knowledge they need to attain their career goals. Before the FAU's NDOW reading, Samantha met with FAU faculty mentors and got feedback on some of her writing.
